We are pleased to announce Terpsichore Virtual Dance Experience, a FREE solo competition!  We’re so excited to see studios across the country reopening and want to assist in the reboot.  At Terpsichore we put our dancers and our studios first and will continue to do everything in our power to share our love of dance with the world.  Let’s get back to what we love, let’s celebrate, let’s unite, let’s share, let’s inspire, LET’S DANCE!

DAYNE HAMILTON

VIRTUAL ADJUDICATOR

TORONTO, ONTARIO

Dayne Hamilton is no stranger to dance. She began her training at age two and won pageants for her solo performances and worked equally effective in small and large groups during her dance career. Her passion for dance is undeniable whether on stage, or in the capacity of a student or teacher. Her work ethic is highly recognized and she has managed to motivate all her students to work to their full potential. She has trained in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, musical theatre, hip hop, contemporary and acrobatics. In 2014, Dayne graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, Performance Dance. She has had several opportunities to perform with modern dance companies in Toronto since her graduation. She has worked with esteemed educators and choreographers such as Marie Chouinard, Robert Glumbek, Allen Kaeja, Vicki St. Denis, Nadia Potts, and Roberto Campanella.  In 2014 she was welcomed as a full time teacher at one of the most prestigious studios in Brampton and has contributed towards the studios success in winning studio of the year twice. Her innovative teaching techniques has inspired her students to achieve their goals leading them to win overall awards, and her choreography has been acknowledged for several numbers whether in a solo or group performances.

SARAH DOLAN

VIRTUAL ADJUDICATOR

CALGARY, ALBERTA

Sarah Dolan is the Founder and has been the Artistic Director of O2 the Dance Company, since it began in 2010. Her commitment to the art provides a critical framework under which the contemporary company and its members thrive.

She has had the privilege of working on numerous live performances and Films/TV Shows/Commercials. Sarah has particularly enjoyed being a part of “Art On Ice” as a Dancer and Assistant Choreographer/Creative Director. She has had the opportunity to work with musical artists such as Jessie J, The Jacksons, James Morrison, Chaka Khan, Nelly Furtado, Tom Odell, HURTS, Helene Fischer and skating champions, such as Tessa & Scott, Meryl & Charlie and Aljona & Bruno. She has also had the pleasure of choreographing for artists Alessia Cara and Shawn Hook. Sarah has assisted on “So You Think You Can Dance” (Fox (America), CTV (Canada) and BBC (UK)) and CBC’s “Over The Rainbow”. 

Sarah is a sought after teacher and choreographer, travelling across Canada, the UK and Europe, sharing her passion and creativity. She is very honoured to be a judge for Terpsichore and wishes everyone all the best onstage.

DEVON PERRI

VIRTUAL ADJUDICATOR

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

Devon is from Toronto and has been since a young age. He has had the opportunity in choreographing for such projects as The Toronto Film Festival as well the tap scenes in the movies; Honey, Universal Pictures and Save The Last Dance 2 MTV.
His music video credits include; Michael Jackson-Slave To The Rhythm, Chris Brown-New Flame, Chris Brown-Loyal, Chris Brown-Turn Up The Music, NeYo-Beautiful Monster, David Guetta+Chris Brown-I Can Only Imagine, Timbaland-Cop That Disc, Snoop+Wiz-Young,Wild n’ Free, BoA-Energetic, K-OS-Superstar + Crab Bucket, Mark Ballas-Get My Name, Yasmeen-Blue Jeans and many more. Devon has also performed on TV and stage with artists such as; the Billboard Awards w/ Michael Jackson hologram, the VMA’s w/ Justin Timberlake, the V.M.A.’s, Billboard Awards, BET Awards, DWTS and Carpe Diem Tour w/ Chris Brown, So You Think You Can Dance w/ Ne-Yo, American Idol w/ Travis Garland and Stefano Langone, DWTS w/ Mark Ballas, DWTS w/ Macy’s All-Stars, DWTS w/ Jason Derulo, Korean Pop Star BoA and many more. He has also appeared in commercials for Marshall’s, Cali-Max, and Milk-Canada.  He now resides in Chicago and is still teaching at studios and workshops across Canada, U.S. and Europe.

RULES & REGULATIONS

  • Entry is FREE

  • Must register and submit video via DanceBUG

  • Must be a Canadian dancer

  • Maximum of ONE (1) solo per dancer

  • Maximum of THREE (3) MINUTES per solo

  • Registration opens Wednesday, August 5

  • Registration Deadline: Sunday, August 23

  • Due to the nature of a virtual event, the registration deadline will not be extended

  • A minimum of 150 entries is required to air the event

  • A maximum of 500 entries will be accepted

  • Submission must be from the 2020 competition season

  • No stage videos (at home, in the studio, outside, be creative)

  • Costumes, hair and makeup is recommended but not mandatory

  • Terpsichore reserves the right to disqualify any videos that are not family friendly, please ensure you are using clean versions of songs, offensive language will not be tolerated

  • Dancers are welcome to compete with the same solo at in-person events in 2020, 2021 and/or beyond

  • This will not affect any dancers' Novice status at in-person events

  • All routines will be adjudicated but personal critiques will not be given

DIVISIONS & OVERALLS

  • Please consult your studio director if you are unsure of your Division

    • Competitive Mini Solo (age 5-8)

    • Competitive Junior Solo (age 9-12)

    • Competitive Teen Solo (age 13-15)

    • Competitive Senior Solo (age 16+)

    • Novice Solo (all ages)

    • 12 & Under Part-Time Solo (age 12 & under)

    • 13 & Over Part-Time Solo (age 13 & over)

  • Ages are determined as of December 31, 2019

  • Top dancers in each division will be announced

  • Top Ten dancers in each division will move on to our Awards Shows on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6

  • Top Ten will be ranked and awarded prizes

 

VIDEO SPECIFICATIONS

  • Must record video submission using one of the following devices:

    • iPhone 8 or better (filmed in landscape)

    • Samsung 10 or better (filmed in landscape)

    • DSLR camera

  • All videos must be submitted via DanceBUG online registration
