REBECCA ZIZEK

VIRTUAL ADJUDICATOR &

CONVENTION TEACHER

TORONTO, ONTARIO

Rebecca is a versatile, passionate and award-winning choreographer, teacher and adjudicator based out of Toronto, Ontario. She is no stranger to the world of competitive dance, having trained as a multi-disciplinary dancer by some of the industry’s best. Rebecca is an established freelance guest teacher and choreographer and is in constant demand at studios, intensives and workshops across Canada, with her work receiving much acclaim. She also holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree and Dance Minor from Western University. Rebecca is a choreographer and collaborator with Creativiva Inc., creating work for international stages, including productions and events in Toronto, Asia and South America. She has choreographed and performed for many professional, commercial and corporate shows and festivals throughout North America. Rebecca has been recognized for her innovative choreography, receiving countless awards for her vision and creativity. Many of her students have gone on to pursue professional dance careers, with students training at Joffrey Ballet School (New York City), Toronto Dance Theatre and performance dance programs at Ryerson University, York University and George Brown College. Rebecca is deeply passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of dancers.

COURTNEY VAN WIRDUM

VIRTUAL ADJUDICATOR &

CONVENTION TEACHER

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Courtney van Wirdum is originally from Toronto, Canada and now resides in Vancouver BC. She has been a performer since the age of 6. Courtney graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance Dance from Ryerson University. She is an A.D.A.P.T certified dance teacher and a talented young choreographer. Her career as a professional dancer took off in Los Angeles California, where she performed with many recording artists from 2015-2019. She can be seen dancing in NBC’s- Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Disney: ZOMBIES and The Greatest Showman Live commercial. Courtney also performed as supporting lead “Emma” in feature film ‘Full Out’ broadcasted on Netflix and Disney Channel worldwide. She currently is lead dancer and dance captain for touring show “Return To Grace”. Courtney is thrilled to be adjudicating for Terpsichore with hopes to inspire young dancers across North America to continue pursuing their dreams as artists and performers.

ALEX HERZOG

VIRTUAL ADJUDICATOR &

CONVENTION TEACHER

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA

Alexandra is a passionate choreographer, director, performer and educator. She just finished choreographing Season Two of Apple TV’s SEE, starring Jason Momoa, and will be beginning choreography on Season Three in just a few weeks! She is also an Evie Award choreography nominee for her work on Cinderella at Rainbow Stage. Her choreography has been featured at Sheridan College and at Stratford Festival’s PAL Benefit. She has also choreographed for many award-winning professional dancers across Canada and the USA. 
As a performer, Alexandra has spent five seasons playing leading roles at the Stratford Festival. Recently, she played Roxie Hart in Chicago. She has also appeared in musicals and tours all across Canada and the US. She has been seen on TV and in Movies; including Suits, Jupiter’s Legacy, Bomb Girls, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, L.A. Complex and Make It Happen. 
Alexandra is also a certified life coach and the founder of Next Up, life coaching for the next gen! She is passionate about coaching age 14-25 in building confidence, reducing anxiety, setting and achieving goals and getting excited about the future! Keep in touch at @nextup.coach!

As we navigate into 2021, Terpsichore Dance Celebration is fully committed to bringing you the competition that you expect, deserve and MORE!  Our number one priority is the health and safety of our dance families.  

 

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to run our Flying Solo events in-person.  We remain optimistic for our full Terpsichore and Dance Starz events as we collaborate with regional authorities nation-wide and schedule postponement dates (more information will be sent to studios regarding the rest of our season, as it comes available to us).

 

In place of our in-person FLYING SOLO EVENTS we are excited to introduce the one of a kind FLYING SOLO VIRTUAL COMPETITION & CONVENTION April 7-11, 2021 at discounted rates.  This competition will be open to all soloists, duets and trios.  We will be offering everything our spectacular live events have offered in the past AND MORE, highlights include:

 

  • DRC video judge (critiques from our 3 amazing judges)

  • Online registration through Dance Bug

  • Online video uploads

  • Open to independent entries

  • SAME awards – including overalls in Mini, Junior, Teen, Senior, 12 & Under Competitive, 13 & Over Competitive, Novice, 12 & Under Part-Time, and 13 & Over Part-Time divisions

  • SAME cash prizes

  • SAME trophies, medals, frames, boards/banners

Join us for our first ever virtual convention! For only $75.00, dancers have access to three (3) virtual classes taught by our esteemed judges.

  • Terpsichore Higher Education Scholarship (any dancer can apply to receive $1000.00 toward their post-secondary education)

  • Terpsichore Charitable Donation ($1.00 from every entry will be donated to Diabetes Canada)

DIVISIONS & OVERALLS

  • Please consult your studio director if you are unsure of your Division

    • Competitive Mini Solo (age 5-8)

    • Competitive Junior Solo (age 9-12)

    • Competitive Teen Solo (age 13-15)

    • Competitive Senior Solo (age 16+)

    • Novice Solo (all ages)

    • 12 & Under Part-Time Solo

    • 13 & Over Part-Time Solo

    • Competitive 12 & Under Duet/Trio

    • Competitive 13 & Over Duet/Trio

    • Novice Duet/Trio (all ages)

    • 12 & Under Part-Time Duet/Trio

  • Divisions will further be broken down into dance categories by ages and genres just as at in-person competition (ie. Competitive Mini Jazz Solo - Age 7)

  • Ages are determined as of December 31, 2020

  • Top dancers in each division will be announced

  • Routines are also categorized by 'Filmed On Stage' and 'Filmed Off Stage'

  • Solo, Duet & Trio dancers receive custom designed medallions 

  • Special awards will be given at each adjudication.  These are not based on marks and are at the judges' discretion. 

 

VIDEO SPECIFICATIONS

  • Must record video submission using one of the following devices:

    • iPhone 8 or better (filmed in landscape)

    • Samsung 10 or better (filmed in landscape)

    • DSLR camera

  • All videos must be submitted via DanceBUG online registration

RULES & REGULATIONS

  • All routines will be adjudicated and personal critiques will be provided

  • Adjudication critiques will be available on DanceBUG after the Awards Shows

  • Must register and submit video via DanceBUG

  • Maximum of THREE (3) MINUTES per entry

  • Registration Deadline: Thursday, March 11

  • Costumes, hair and makeup is recommended but not mandatory

  • Dancers are welcome to compete with the same solo at in-person events in 2021, 2022 and/or beyond

  • This will not affect any dancers' Novice status at in-person events

  • Dates and times are subject to change, follow us on Instagram (@TerpsichoreCanada) for updates

  • Space is limited and entries are accepted on a first come first served basis.  Entries will only be confirmed when payment is received.

  • Terpsichore Dance Celebration Inc. reserves the right to lengthen, shorten or cancel any event 
  • CASH AWARDS will be awarded by cheque made out to the studios only
  • Trophies, medals, frames, banners/boards will be sent directly to studios
  • Independent entries must have a studio affiliate to compete
  • ALL JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL AND NON-NEGOTIABLE 
  • Terpsichore Dance Celebration Inc. reserves the right to disqualify any videos that are not family friendly, please ensure you are using clean versions of songs, offensive language will not be tolerated. 
  • In the unlikely event that Flying Solo Virtual Competition & Convention does not proceed, all "VIRTUAL" entry fees will be refunded in the same method of payment in which they were received
  • Terpsichore Dance Celebration Inc. and all its affiliates have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for bullying of any kind.  Terpsichore prides itself on providing a safe space and any threats to the safety of our space will be removed.  Terpsichore reserves the right to disqualify any dancer that is contributing to an unsafe environment.  
  • Upon registration it is agreed and acknowledged that the risks of participation are fully understood and that Terpsichore Dance Celebration Inc., which includes Terpsichore Dance Celebration, Flying Solo, UDC University Dance Challenge, Dance Starz Challenge, Flying Solo Virtual Competition & Convention and any of their workshop/convention classes, are hereby released from any liability whatsoever arising from claims for damages or injuries while participating in the aforementioned events.  

PAYMENT

  • Independent entries must pay by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) via the registration portal on our website or on DanceBUG

  • Studios may pay by cheque, e-transfer, or credit card

  • All credit card transactions are charged a 2.99% service fee

  • Studios please make cheques payable to TERPSICHORE DANCE CELEBRATION INC. and/or e-transfers to info@terpsichore.ca 

  • NSF FEE of $45.00 will be charged for all NSF cheques

  • Prices do not include tax, 13% HST will be added to all registrations at checkout
